MNR Free-Use Policy and "2 Storey Boathouses"

We've added a link to MNRs policy documents for "Crown" land, including the "Free-use" policy charges for boathouses on Crown land that don't conform to "Free Use".  Also found on this site is Quick Claims form for claiming Patent if your structure is older than 60 years.

Lake of the Woods Water Sustainability Foundation

The official launch of the Lake of the Woods Water Sustainability Foundation took place on May 9, 2005 at the LOWDPOA Annual General Meeting. This Foundation provides an opportunity for families and individuals to make a difference in a new way, to contribute to an organization that is solely committed to the long-term viability of Lake of the Woods water quality.

The Lake of the Woods District Property Owners Association Inc. (LOWDPOA) is a not-for-profit association of over 4000 property owners in the Lake of the Woods area of northwestern Ontario. 

The mission of the LOWDPOA is: 

To provide representation, assistance and leadership for members on issues affecting their interests and to encourage good environmental stewardship

Established in the late 1960s, the LOWDPOA is involved in issues that reflect its member’s interests, including aquatic and terrestrial environment, land and water use planning, and promotion of fair taxation

Membership profile

Membership in the LOWDPOA has more than tripled in the past ten years to over 4000 in 2006. LOWDPOA members include cottage owners, permanent residents, boaters, tourist businesses, and fishers who share a common passion for the lake and a commitment to its preservation and enjoyment. Geographically, the LOWDPOA represents property owners from the Manitoba border east to Vermillion Bay, north to Sand Lake and South to Rainy River and Warroad, MN.
