A belated Happy New Year. I hope you had a restful and
enjoyable holiday season and that the early months of 2008
have treated you well. As you can see from the picture
entitled, “How I spent my winter vacation”, our family found
some warmer climes to spend a couple of weeks in December. Not
quite a Harley but I am working up to it. I have to admit,
eating bugs was one disadvantage of the “two wheeler”. We are
now counting our days to the cottage opening. I am taking bets
on when the ice will go out.
We have been very busy these last few months on a couple of
important LOWDPOA activities. First and foremost, after 16
years as Executive Director Gerry Wilson retired on October
31st. At the time of this writing we have a verbal agreement
with a new Executive Director. Unfortunately, details will
need to wait until next issue, after we have had final Board
ratification of the employment arrangements. The Board members
are very excited to introduce our new Executive Director to
you.
A second major initiative these past few months was the
member survey. The results are in and we are in the process of
interpreting them. You will find a brief summary of some of
the results later in this issue. Much more will be forthcoming
and we will be using these results in our membership
campaigns, programming and strategic planning. Thank you to
all who took the time to complete and return the survey.
Finally, we are in the midst of our Annual Meeting and
Cottage Show planning. Save the date, we will be welcoming you
once again to the Victoria Inn in Winnipeg on May 5, 2008. We
have an exciting set of seminars planned and there will be a
full house of booths.
As I close this brief note, I would like to ask you to
consider providing your email address to us. At present we
have email addresses for about half of our members, a level
that was too low for us to send the survey to our members in
an electronic format. A full complement of email addresses
would allow us to provide more efficient communication on
issues of importance to our members. If we do not yet have
your email address and you are willing to provide it, please
send it to
