Construction project at the Ontario/Manitoba Border underway.

Curious about the equipment and construction just inside (east) of the Ontario/Manitoba border? In response to member inquiries we checked with MTO to find out what was going on, and here's the scoop. The Ministry is expanding the rest area parking facilities in order to improve the opportunities for motorists and truck operators to rest while travelling on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The work undertaken earlier this spring was for the removal of the trees and brush in order to advance the work for the general contractor to start construction of the parking facilities. At the moment, the Contractor has mobilized their equipment to site, and the remainder of the work should be under construction shortly. The work is expected to last until this fall, however the general public will still have access to the existing facilities at all times during construction.

The ‘Notice of Step-Down’ for this project in order to provide more information on what the expansion work entails and the benefits of the work being conducted is attached.
